How to use castor oil for detox

Because of the many benefits, castor oil has been a staple item in my home throughout my healing journey. Given its makeup of ricinoleic acid, and given that when absorbed through the skin it increases lymphocyte count in the blood , it acts as an anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, wound healer, and circulation improver.

You can use castor oil pretty much anywhere: over joints and arthritic areas to help ease inflammation, over the liver/gallbladder to help with detoxification, over the abdomen to help with digestion, constipation, and mild menstrual cramps, over the thyroid gland for inflammation, the list goes on.

I use castor oil mostly for two main reasons: One, is to help moisturize unexplained rashes, acne and eczema on my face and body. I have had horribly painful rashes all around my eyes, face, and stomach which coconut oil and vitamin E just don’t help soothe even in the slightest.

The second and main reason I use castor oil is to assist in detox and to promote blood flow and elimination from my liver, kidneys and colon. I do this through castor oil packs. Here’s how:

How to do a castor oil pack

  • Choose which organ/area you will be targeting. If using wool, cut the wool to a size that will cover a little more than the entirety of the area

  • Drench the majority of the center of the cut wool or the center of the QOT wrap in castor oil so that the wool has absorbed some of the oil

  • Place the oiled wool over the area of concern

  • If using wool and not the QOT wrap, place the towel over the wool. If you own an ace bandage you can use it to wrap around yourself to secure the wool and towel. If using the QOT wrap, you won’t need additional wrapping or protection but I do suggest wearing an old T-shirt if the pack is over your abdominal area, breasts, or back as the oil tends to seep through the pack.

  • Place the heating pad/hot water bottle over the area if desired

  • Leave it on for anywhere from 5-60 minutes*

  • You can save the wool in a glass Tupperware for multiple uses up to 1-3 months. Then wash with mild nontoxic soap and water and allow to dry.

*When first starting with castor oil packs it is best to start slowly and work your way up.
